In 2021 I painted “I am not a landscape, I am a Moondance”… a very large painting that recently sold but since painting it, the components of this painting have remained with me. “Moondance Deconstructed” is an effort to go back to that, to explore its components and bring them together in a new painting. This new painting, both in process and visuality explores the rustic, primitive aspects of nature while being connected to the humanness of wanting to experience order in something unknown, beautiful, carefree, and even scary. Its colors are layered with shadows, revealing only a few, hopeful and beautiful bright spots. It’s just the right balance to feel alive. This painting is layered in washes of blue and black with overlays of shapes in dusty, rosy brown, pink, grayish lavender, gray, and ochre. There is a hint of bright salmon coming through as a lining. This painting ships with a handwritten thank you note from the artist and a certificate of authenticity.
